The South Carolina EMS Association (SCEMSA) and South Carolina Office of Rural Health (SCORH) are pleased to launch our statewide Mental Health Resiliency Officer (MHRO) project. Jonathan Jones will head up this initiative by selecting 10 candidates to complete the virtual MRHO Instructor course, which will establish a core cadre to provide this training statewide. Learn more about this course here.
SCORH has provided funding to train at least 100 providers throughout the state and to support agencies that wish to establish an MHRO program within their organization. The selection minimum criteria for instructors will be as follows:
- State certification at EMT level or above
- At least three years of full-time practice (or equivalent) at the EMT level or above
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with an interest in serving in this position
- Prior experience with critical incident stress debriefing (CISD) and/or motivational interviewing
- NAEMT Instructor certification (completion of NAEMT Instructor Preparation course)
- Flexibility of schedule and ability to travel if needed to assist with teaching
- Current CV outlining the above requirements
- Letter of support from employer/agency
Instructor candidates will be interviewed and selections made based on experience, location, and availability. Once the instructor cadre is selected and certified, the next phase of training courses will be established. Ideal candidates for the MHRO certification will be those who meet the first three items listed in the instructor requirements with the fourth item being preferred.
Please submit your information and the items requested above to Jonathan Jones if you are interested in participating. The deadline to submit is March 10, 2023.
