History of the South Carolina EMS Association

The South Carolina EMS Association (SCEMSA) is a distinguished nonprofit organization dedicated to serving as a collective voice for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) providers throughout South Carolina. Established with the mission to foster the advancement of EMS through advocacy, collaboration, and education, SCEMSA has continually strived to meet the diverse needs of EMS professionals across the state, regardless of their specific sector.

Over recent years, SCEMSA has significantly expanded its efforts to address critical challenges within the EMS community. Recognizing the urgency of workforce sustainability, the association has formed specialized subcommittees to tackle pressing issues including the shortages of certified EMS providers at all levels, as well as the health and safety concerns of EMS personnel, which encompass PTSD and emotional trauma.

Additionally, these subcommittees have focused on enhancing education and improving access to EMS training systems. Through their proactive engagement, SCEMSA's subcommittees collaborate closely with various stakeholders to gather and disseminate data and reports. These efforts are instrumental in guiding the association's legislative advocacy, aiming to foster meaningful changes that enhance and improve the statewide EMS systems in collaboration with the State EMS Office.

Through its dedicated work, the South Carolina EMS Association continues to advocate for a safe and thriving environment where every EMS provider can excel, thus ensuring the highest quality of emergency medical care for the communities they serve.
