The SC Emergency Medical Services Foundation is now accepting applications for its Board of Directors. Dedicated to advancing EMS and pre-hospital health care in South Carolina, the Foundation exists to promote and conduct research, apply scientific knowledge in EMS care; support educational and workforce initiatives for EMS professionals and foster innovation through the exchange of critical information. It also provides direct financial assistance to EMS professionals facing hardship through the EMS Cares Fund.

Board members serve a pivotal role in shaping programs that prepare future EMS leaders, enhance education and training standards, and foster new models of care that move the EMS profession forward.

As part of our commitment to growth and innovation, the Foundation is seeking two dedicated individuals to serve a voluntary two-year term on its Board of Directors. These appointments will replace two members who have transitioned out of their roles. New board members will help guide the foundation’s strategic direction, support its mission-driven initiatives, and contribute their expertise to the advancement of EMS in South Carolina.

“Serving on the EMS Foundation board is a rewarding way to give back to the profession and help shape its future,” said Jeffrey Carroll, MS, NRP, current Chair of the SC EMS Foundation Board.

Board Member Responsibilities

    • Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the Bylaws
    • Attend meetings as required by the Chair
    • Serve on committees (as needed)
    • Respond promptly when participation is needed to establish a quorum
    • Review and vote on funding requests submitted through the EMS Cares Fund and other Foundation programs

    • Meeting Format: All board meetings are held virtually. Meetings will be called annually and at the desire of the chairman of the board when necessary.
    • Time Commitment: Board members typically contribute 2–4 hours per month, including meeting attendance and committee involvement. This may vary depending on Foundation needs.
    • Compensation: Board service is voluntary and unpaid. Directors may be reimbursed for reasonable, pre-approved expenses related to their board duties.

Governance Structure & Terms

    • The Board is composed of both Appointed and Elected Directors. A majority of the Board must be Appointed Directors, selected by the South Carolina EMS Association (SCEMSA). The remaining seats are filled by Elected Directors, chosen by the current board.
    • Directors may serve up to three successive full terms (two years each), in accordance with Foundation bylaws.
