SC EMS Memorial Bike Ride
May 8-11, 2024

“For those who can no longer ride”

Rider registration deadline is March 31.  Register as a rider today!

The South Carolina EMS Memorial Bike Ride is a charitable organization, which honors EMS providers who have lost their lives while providing care to others or after a significant career in EMS. Our ride began in 2010 when we honored eight EMS providers which included the three lost in the September 2009 Omniflight crash that year.

Each year, the SC EMS Memorial Ride honors providers who have served their communities as EMS providers, and who have passed away. This year, the SC ride has partnered with the National EMS Memorial Ride's Southern Route. The Southern Route is a 4-day event from May 8-11, 2024, which ends in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Days 4, 5, 6, and 7 of the Southern Route are being done with our SC Ride. Participants can choose to participate in single days, multiple days, or all 4 days. In addition, we'd love to see additional SC riders join us for the entire Southern Route. The SC ride will have its own jerseys, which will be similar but different from the Southern Route jerseys. Day 1 will go from Fort Mill, SC to Camden, SC (approximately 66 miles).  Day 2 will leave from Camden, SC and proceed to Florence, SC (approximately 53 miles). Day 3 will leave from Florence, SC and proceed to Conway, SC (approximately 54 miles). Day 4 will leave from Conway, SC and end in Myrtle Beach SC (approximately 66 miles).  SAG support is available for riders who are not able to ride the entire route, or those who need to take a break.

If you would like to continue on for the rest of the week with the Southern Route in the national ride, you can get more details at https://nemsmbr.org/rides/southern/.

Registration is open until March 31 using the link on the right.  Registration is available for riders, support personnel and sponsors.  If you are riding, please read the state of release of liability on the right before completing your registration.

NEW OPTION - Virtual Bike Ride

We know that not everyone who would like to participate in the annual Memorial Bike Ride is able to take time away from work and family.  For 2024, we are offering a virtual opportunity to ride with us. Participants will receive the 2024 SCEMSMBR T-shirt and have the option to purchase the 2024 Jersey.  You can ride outside or indoors and help support our cause at the same time. FAQs-SC EMS Memorial Bike Ride

What are the ride dates and length?

  • Day 4 (May 8) – Fort Mill, SC  to Camden, SC (86 miles)
  • Day 5 (May 9) – Camden, SC to Florence, SC (59 miles)
  • Day 6 (May 10) – Florence, SC to Conway, SC (64 miles) (Shuttle to Myrtle Beach, SC)
  • Day 7 (May 11) – Myrtle Beach, SC area
How can I get back at the end of the ride?
  • Let us know if you are needing assistance with getting back to a starting point from the end of a day's ride.  We will work with support staff and other riders to try and help connect riders with rides.
Why is the ride not ending at the SC Memorial this year?
  • There will still be a SC EMS Memorial service this year.  Date TBA.  The Memorial Bike ride has partnered with the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride’s Southern Route.
What type(s) of bike are appropriate for the ride?
  • We strongly encourage road bicycles.  Think skinny tires.  We have had some riders tackle the challenge riding hybrids or mountain bikes.  Those thicker tires are great for off-road, but make for a slower and more difficult ride on the pavement. Tri-bikes will not be allowed due to the potential dangers of riding in close proximity to other riders
How fast will the ride travel?
  • We do our best to keep the entire group together.  Generally, a minimum average pace of 12 miles per hour is needed to keep the ride on schedule and everyone safe.  Those who struggle to keep up or who just need a break will be welcome to ride in one of our support vehicles.  This is not a race, and we stay safe by staying together.
